Salvation

Who needs salvation? The Bible tells us that everyone does (Romans 3:23). Because all men sin, we become separated from God. Why is this important? It is important because if we remain in that state, we will receive the wages of our sin: death (Romans 6:23).

How can we avoid this? There was nothing we could do to deserve salvation, but God sent His Son, Jesus, to die as a sacrifice for our sins (I John 4:10). Our Savior died for the sins of the world, redeeming those who would accept His sacrifice (Titus 2:14).

What must we do? This was a common question in the early days of the church. We see that salvation begins with hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:14, Romans 10:17). This hearing must spark belief in Christ (Hebrews 11:6, John 3:16). This belief must lead to confession of Christ as the Son of God and our Savior (Romans 10:9, Acts 8:36-37). Coupled with this is repentance of sins, turning away from the evil deeds we have done (Luke 13:3, Acts 2:38). Finally, the believer must be baptized into Christ, at which point his sins are washed away (Acts 22:16, Mark 16:16, I Peter 3:21). After this, one is saved and added by God into the church, the body of saved believers (Acts 2:47).

Is that the end? We find in Scripture that it was possible for Christians to sin and be lost (James 5:19-20, I Timothy 6:9-10, I Timothy 6:20-21, John 15:5-6). Even the great apostle Paul was concerned that he could be lost (I Corinthians 9:27). Christians must once again repent of sins to receive forgiveness (Acts 8:22).
